Zhongqiujie is recognized as an official public holiday and declared a day off on it. Today, the essence of the holiday is in the unity of the family.

By tradition, the Chinese gather the whole family at the same table for the tuanyuanfan reunion meal, communicate with relatives and friends and admire the full moon, which has become a symbol of harmony and family happiness.

The most common gift for the Mid—Autumn Holiday is yuebina moon cakes (月饼 yuèbǐng). According to legend, the use of yuebins began during the brutal rule of the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368). One day Zhu Yuanzhang decided to revolt and overthrow the Mongol government. In order to gather rebel forces and not be discovered, it was decided to hide secret messages in cookies and send them all over the country. The uprising was crowned with success, and Zhu Yuanzhang became the first ruler of the Ming Dynasty. He was so happy that he decided to arrange a holiday in this honor. So the custom of eating moon cakes exists to this day.

Congratulate your friends in Chinese: "zhōngqiū kuàilè" / "Happy mid-autumn".
